Ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) is a formal copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol. The copolymer is made by polymerizing ethylene and vinyl acetate. High ethylene content EVOH have lower extrusion temperatures. EVOH is commonly used as an oxygen barrier in food packaging. It’s better than other plastics to keep air and flavors out.
EVOH is mostly used as a thin layer between cardboard, films or other plastics by coextrusion or lamination. EVOH is also used as a hydrocarbon barrier in plastic fuel tanks and pipes.
